Al Salam Hospital is a private general hospital on Port Said Street in Bneid Al Gar, Kuwait. It has 172 beds and provides maternity, surgical, medical, pediatric and intensive care. Its website calls it Al Salam Al Assima Hospital. Its former name was Al Salam International Hospital. The hospital says it opened in 1964 as a maternity hospital with 10 beds and became a general hospital in May 1992. Accreditation Canada's directory lists it at Diamond, the accreditor's highest level.
Specialties at Al Salam
The hospital's website lists 25 clinics and centers at Al Salam Al Assima Hospital. Twenty of them are clinical specialties, each with its own section below. The other five are support clinics, listed at the end with the hospital's other services. Tebaba lists doctors from 7 of the 20 specialties. Each of those seven sections ends with a link to them. Before the support services, a section on Al Messila Medical Tower links to its doctors.
Obstetrics and gynecology
Gynecologists here treat abnormal menstrual bleeding as well as infections and growths of the female reproductive organs, including some that can delay pregnancy. They do keyhole (laparoscopic) and laser surgery. Obstetricians look after routine pregnancies, treat complications, monitor high risk pregnancies more closely and agree a pain relief plan for labor with each woman.

Pediatric center
The center sees children in its clinics and wards and says its pediatric emergency service is open 24 hours a day. For newborns it has a special care baby unit and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where a team led by a neonatologist cares for premature and very sick babies.

The andrology unit treats male infertility and sexual problems.
On Tebaba: 6 doctors listed under Al Salam urologists and a urogynecologist under Al Salam gynecologists.
Internal medicine
Internists treat sudden and long term illnesses and do health checks. The diabetes and endocrine clinic has a bone density scanner and treats diabetes and thyroid disorders, as well as growth problems, mineral imbalance, osteoporosis, weight problems, high blood pressure and abnormal blood fats. The clinic also gives diet advice and diabetes education to patients and their families.
Family medicine
The clinic sees patients of all ages for any medical complaint. It follows long term conditions such as asthma, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, migraine and osteoporosis. Checkups, health risk assessments, vaccinations and screening tests are available too. The hospital's doctor list shows no family medicine doctor at this hospital. Its family medicine doctors are listed at Al Salam Al Ahmadi Hospital in Mahboula, so call 1830003 before you go.

Endoscopy of the stomach and colon is part of their work as well. For severe obesity they offer a gastric balloon, gastric banding and weight loss surgery. They operate on anal fissures, piles and fistulas, breast lumps and the thyroid gland too.
Orthopedics, spinal surgery and sports injuries center

Respiratory and allergy unit
The unit treats asthma, respiratory allergies, chronic cough, shortness of breath, COPD and other smoking related disease, lung fibrosis, chest infections and pneumonia. It assesses snoring and breathing problems during sleep and prescribes home oxygen and breathing machines. Tests include lung function tests, home sleep studies, skin and blood allergy tests and bronchoscopy.

Rheumatologists look for the cause of joint pain, using blood tests, X rays or joint ultrasound when needed. They treat and monitor osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, lupus, myositis and vasculitis. They give joint injections with steroids or hyaluronic acid and monitor osteoporosis and low vitamin D.

What to bring. For a clinic visit, bring a valid Civil ID or other government ID. Expatriates should bring a valid passport. For pregnancy and gynecology visits, the hospital also asks for a valid copy of the marriage certificate. If you use insurance, bring your original insurance card and your original Civil ID. The hospital's insurance page lists 22 insurers and claims administrators whose cards this hospital accepts for direct billing, including GIG, GlobMed, NextCare, Kuwait Insurance Company, Al Ahleia, BUPA and Warba Insurance. The list does not include Afya, the government health insurance. Some tests and procedures need approval from your insurer first, which the hospital says usually takes 10 to 20 minutes. If your insurance is not accepted or does not cover a treatment, you can pay for it yourself. The hospital says most insurance policies do not pay for a companion to stay overnight unless the patient is under 12.
Emergency. If someone's life is in danger, call 112. The hospital's Emergency page gives only the main number, 1830003, which it says answers 24 hours a day. The Cardiology and Vascular Center says the same of its cath lab for heart emergencies. For other urgent problems, call 1830003 before you go.
